About Science in Action Summer 2013

The Science in Action Summer Intensive is a 2-week program in which high school youth work with Academy scientists and other experts to create professional-quality short films about science.

These youth-created films are displayed on the public floor in the Science in Action exhibit, as well as on the Academy website. This summer's SiASI program will focus on topics related to our Built for Speed exhibit which opens in May; namely, marine animals which are well adapted for speed, and how such adaptations relate to the America's Cup race.

  • Work with the Digital Learning team, Academy scientists, and other experts to dive into the world of America's Cup and its connection to the earth's fastest marine animals
  • Learn what it means to be a scientist and to communicate compelling science stories to the public
  • Produce your own Science in Action short films in conjunction with our Built for Speed exhibit, with the help of the professional filmmakers in the Academy's Visualization Studio
  • Showcase the short films you create in the Science in Action exhibit on the museum floor and on the Academy website

Science in Action is generously funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
